In every community, there are organizations that are changing lives in ways that most people never fully see. In Kingston Ontario, one of those places is Almost Home. This is a charity that we, at Bergeron Clifford LLP, have been proud to support for many years.
Our relationship with Almost Home is filled with shared values, respect and deep understandings of what families truly need during some of the most difficult and hardest moments of their lives.
A Shared Commitment to Families in Crisis
At its core, Almost Home provides something incredibly simple, and yet so powerful: a place to stay.
Known as a ‘home away from home’, they offer comfortable accommodations for families when a child is receiving medical care in Kingston.
Almost Home is located within walking distance to both of the major hospitals in the area:
For families with a sick or injured child, proximity to the treatment centre becomes a necessity. Almost Home allows parents and siblings to stay close to their sick or injured child without the added stress of traveling far.
Almost Home, however, runs without government funding. Their ability to keep doors open fully depends on the generosity of donors and community partners.
This is where our relationship comes in.
Why Our Relationship With Almost Home Means So Much To Us
As a personal injury law firm, we often meet families during the worst moments of their lives and always after a serious injury. Some injury examples we see regularly are collisions, sporting incidents or another traumatic event. We see every day just how lives can be changed in an instant. When children are injured, the emotions and logistics of care and challenges increase even more so.
We see firsthand all the work done by doctors, nurses, social workers and other hospital staff who take care of young patients.
While healthcare professionals help children with treatment and recovery, Almost Home prepares a space for families to:
- Take time to breathe
- Regroup
- Stay close to their children.
That continuity of care outside the hospital is something that we deeply value.
Being able to support Almost Home has helped us to strengthen our connection to the broader care of the community. The relationships that we have been able to build with healthcare professionals and support staff through Almost Home has allowed us to better understand and advocate.
Investing in Community
Each year, we are proud to serve as the title sponsor for the Almost Home Charity Gala – one of the organization’s most important fundraising events.
This year’s theme is “Canada – Beyond the Red and White”. The theme celebrates not only pride for our country as a whole, but also the spirit of compassion and generosity that defines the Kingston community.
This event is essential. Without sustained support, Almost Home simply wouldn’t exist. Families would be left without a critical lifeline during their times of crisis.
The gala will be taking place at Our Lady of Fatima Parish on Friday, May 29th. Featuring:
- The Children’s Cantabile Choir
- The Celtic Kitchen Party Band
- DJ Daisy Entertainment
Guests are encouraged to celebrate Canada – whether through wearing red and white attire or by representing their favourite Canadian icons.
More Than A Cause - A Responsibility
Supporting Almost Home isn’t just about giving back. It is about standing alongside an organization that reflects the same values that we bring everyday:
- Compassion
- Advocacy
- Commitment to helping people during difficult times
When a family is navigating the uncertainty of a child’s medical emergency, they shouldn’t have to worry about:
- Where they will sleep
- How they will afford accommodations
- How far they will be from their injured or sick child.
Almost Home ensures they don’t have to. And that is why this relationship matters so much to us.
