We are honoured to share that Joseph Dart has been appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice and is no longer practicing at our firm. If you have questions or need assistance, please reach out to our partners Edward Bergeron, Chris Clifford, Gavin Cosgrove, or Warren WhiteKnight – they will be happy to help.

Joseph Dart is a past partner at Bergeron Clifford LLP. He graduated from Yale University in New Haven, CT., in 2001, where he played for four years as a defenseman on the varsity hockey team. He graduated from Queen’s University Law School in 2005, where he received several course prizes.

Joseph was called to the bar in 2006, and began his legal career as a crown prosecutor in the Crown Attorney’s Office, first in Scarborough, and later in Belleville, where he worked on various high-profile criminal cases. During his time with the Crown’s Office, Joseph litigated many cases in both the provincial and superior courts of Ontario.

Joseph and his family moved to Kingston and he joined a local firm in 2011, where he began his civil litigation practice in a wide variety of areas, including personal injury.

Joseph joined Bergeron Clifford in 2015, and until his appointment to the Ontario Court of Justice in 2025, he represents ed plaintiffs in negligence, medical malpractice and auto cases.  In his former practice, Joseph tried and argued cases before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Appeal, along with the License Appeals Tribunal, Social Security Tribunal of Canada and Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.

Joseph was a proud member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association where he sat on both the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, the Frontenac Law Association, the Ontario Bar Association, the County of Carleton Law Association, the Advocates’ Society, and the County of Lanark Law Association. He also coached the moot court trial advocacy team at Queen’s University Law School at both the Arnup and Sopinka Cup annual competitions for many years.

Bergeron Clifford wishes Joseph the best, as he continues to serve the community as a Judge at the Ontario Court of Justice.
