Uncertainty is one of the most frustrating feelings a person can feel. Unfortunately, it goes hand in hand with fatal motor vehicle accidents, which can take time to properly investigate. The family of an Ontario cab driver is likely in shock and distress as police continue to seek answers to what caused a fatal accident that took the man’s life.
The collision occurred on March 19, around 2 a.m. Although the details are a bit sketchy, it seems the driver of a Mercedes heading east on York Mills Road in Toronto lost control of his car and struck a pole at the side of the road. After hitting the pole, the vehicle then returned to the road where it collided with a taxi.
People throughout the neighbourhood were awoken by the sound of the crash, with some rushing to help. They were unable to extricate the taxi driver from his vehicle, but emergency workers did manage to get the 49-year-old man free of the car. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Initial reports from police indicated they charged the driver of the Mercedes with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. They later stated they had not laid any charges. Nevertheless, the investigation into the collision is continuing, and police do suspect speed may have been a factor.
Nothing can bring the deceased man back to his family, but the grief may be compounded by the lack of answers. At a time like this, it may be helpful to speak with a personal injury lawyer. A dedicated lawyer will work with the families of victims in the pursuit of compensation after fatal motor vehicle accidents in Ontario.
