What is the cost of motor vehicle accidents?

As you know, motor vehicle accidents are extremely common throughout the United States. Every day, regardless of the state, there are accidents that lead to injuries and fatalities.

According to a recent study by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the economic and societal impact of motor vehicle accidents in the United States is far-reaching.

With $836 billion in economic loss and societal harm every year, it is easy to see why authorities are doing whatever they can to cut down on the number of accidents that occur throughout the country.

U.S. Secretary Anthony Foxx added the following:

“While the economic and societal costs of crashes are staggering, today’s report clearly demonstrates that investments in safety are worth every penny used to reduce the frequency and severity of these tragic events.”

There are many causes of accidents, including, but not limited to, drunk driving, speeding, and distracted driving (such as texting).

Fortunately, the automotive industry is on board with the idea of preventing injuries with advanced safety features, which continues to move things in the right direction.

As a driver, you understand that you could be involved in a motor vehicle accident at any time. You also understand that others may not take the same level of caution as you.

When you understand how widespread accidents are, it may change the way you drive. If for any reason you are involved in an accident with somebody else, you may need to receive immediate medical attention. Fast treatment could help prevent long-term trouble.
