Ottawa Car Accidents – When and Where Accidents are Mostly Likely to Occur

Accidents happen every day across cities in Ontario, such as Ottawa, Kingston and Whitby. Many Ontario cities have programs dedicated to making roads safer for their drivers. Ottawa, for example, has the Safer Roads Ottawa Program which is committed to preventing or eliminating road deaths and serious injuries for residents of Ottawa. The program is a partnership between Ottawa Fire Services, Ottawa Paramedic Service, Ottawa Police Service, Ottawa Public Health and the Public Works Department.

The program also releases annual collision reports of the City of Ottawa. The reports provide information such as when accidents are most likely to occur during the day, the age of drivers involved in the accidents, and top intersections where accidents happen.

2009-2013 Reportable Collisions by Time of Day

It makes sense that the highest number of reportable collisions in a given 24 hour period occur during morning and afternoon rush hour, with the most collisions happening between the hour of 4-5 pm (6,975 collisions), followed by 5-6 pm (6,617), 3-4 pm (6,294) and 8-9 am (5,006).

Intersection Accidents

Reports provided by the Safer Roads Ottawa Program list the top intersections in Ottawa where auto accidents are more likely to occur. Certain highways and roads in Ottawa are notorious for the high number of car and truck accidents that happen there.

As we discussed in other articles, intersection accidents are one of the most common types of car, truck and pedestrian accidents.
