While reading the news on the Kingston Whig earlier today, we came across an article reporting on the release of AllState Insurance’s fifth annual Canada Safe Driving Study. The study takes a look at insurance claims throughout Canada, including cities in Ontario.
A surprising find in the study is that it identifies Kingston as having the second highest increase in collision claims. Rest assured, we’re still a fairly safe city for motorists, given that we rank 26th in collision frequency (per 100 vehicles) out of the 50 cities studied.
Overall, Kingston’s roads are fortunately very safe but studies like these definitely remind us to be careful out there! Especially with the winter driving conditions that we’ve had to deal with recently, and with more certainly on the way over the next few months.
The sudden onset of winter serves as a reminder to be more cautious on the roads and more mindful of other drivers and pedestrians. It’s also worth noting that Thursdays and Fridays are the days that you are most likely to be involved in a collision, with 16% and 17% of collisions occurring on those days, respectively.
If you’d like to check out the statistics for yourself, the study is available here (PDF), or you can view it below!
We also created an infographic on some of the data from this study, focusing on the safety of Ontario’s roads. Follow the link to the Safer Roads in Ontario Infographic.
