The sudden and unexpected death of a loved one can tear a piece out of a family. Sadly, that is exactly what fatal motor vehicle accidents can do. The family of one Ontario man will need to figure how to get by without him following a tragic accident on a major highway.
The collision took place on Nov. 4, 2016 in the westbound lanes of the 401 near Woodstock, about 90 minutes west of Toronto. Around 7 a.m., a vehicle lost control and began to spin. That vehicle struck another vehicle, also travelling in the westbound lanes. Somehow, a passenger in the first vehicle ended up on the other side of the divider, in the eastbound lanes of the highway. The passenger was struck by an eastbound vehicle, which triggered a multi-car collision on that side of the highway.
Police report that the passenger, a 55-year-old man, was killed in the accident. Three other people were taken to hospital, all with minor injuries. All lanes of the highway were closed temporarily following the accident. Ontario Provincial Police officers are trying to determine what caused the driver of the vehicle to lose control, and how the deceased man ended up in the opposing lanes.
For any injured parties, recovering from a serious accident can be a difficult physical process. However, for the families and loved ones of victims of fatal motor vehicle accidents, the pain can run just as deeply on an emotional level. Though dealing with the legal details of an accident may not be on a person's mind after such a tragedy, they still need to be handled. Working with the associates at a personal injury law firm may help to ease the burden during a trying time.
